Last week on June 30th was Social Media Day! People all over the world tweeted under the hashtag #smday, posted on Facebook, and pinned on Pintrest in honor of Social Media!
It is hard for me to imagine what the world would have been like without websites like Facebook and Twitter. What would college have been like without posting statuses or browsing through pictures? How would I have stayed up to date on my favorite athletes and breaking news? How would I have spent my free time without websites like #whatshouldwecallme? I even based my entire Senior Project thesis on Social Media use in the classroom.
What is apparent is that Social Media has instantly placed the world at our fingertips at lightning speed. We build and nurture our daily interactions and relationships through these infamous online platforms. It is “the one thing that unites us and keeps us in constant contact.” (Mashable.com)

One week ago, thousands of people celebrated Social Media Day with hundreds of meetups held around the globe.
Mashable started Social Media Day to recognize the importance of social media and its role in empowering individuals and strengthening connections. Now in its third year, it has grown into a worldwide celebration. This year, 17 cities and three states proclaimed June 30 a day of recognizing the power of social media. Many more held meetups around the world. Some of the most popular events occurred in places such as Morocco, Brazil, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
